Unexcused Absence Policy

The Texas Education Code requires that every child attend school.  With regards to school attendance, the Texas Family Code states that a student may have no more than 3 unexcused absences or tardies each four weeks and no more than 10 unexcused absences or tardies each six months.

Students who do not attend 90% of the each semester will not receive credit for the class and could fail to be promoted.

The only reasons eligible for consideration as excused absences are:
a. Illness with a written note from parent/guardian given to campus attendance office.  The note must be provided within 3 days of the absence for excuse consideration.

b. Doctor or dental appointments with a doctor's note when returning to school.

c. Death in the family

d. Observance of a National Religious Holiday.

e. Extenuating circumstances with prior approval from the building principal.
If you have questions about your child's attendance or the state attendance laws, feel free to call Lancaster Middle School for more information.
